Our friends at Synology have officially launched their most recent update to their DiskStation product line: the DS418play, a 4-bay NAS targeted at home multimedia center.
With the increase of 4K video recording in mobile devices, you will start needing more and more storage for your video files. The DS418play supports up to 40TB of raw capacity and with its dual-core Intel Celeron 2GHz processor and 2GB RAM (expandable to 6GB), you can ensure that the DS418play can transcode those 4K files on-the-fly to your televisions that do not yet support the 4K resolution.
The DS418play also supports AES-NI hardware accelerated encryption and, coupled with Link Aggregation (it has dual 1 Gigabit Ethernet Ports), it can deliver up to 226 MB/s reading and 185 MB/s writing while protecting it all with AES-256 encryption.
