Synology is releasing new and updated products left, right and center it seems. This also means that their entry level Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions geared towards the home user are never left in the past. Their newest addition is the DiskStation DS216j, an improved update over the previous DS215j.

The DiskStation DS216j, part of Synology’s 2-bay drive NAS product line, features a dual-core CPU (Marvell Armada 385) running at 1.0 GHz with 512MB of DDR3 RAM and can provide an average 112.75 MB/s read and 97.6 MB/s write speeds. An update like this will allow entry-level home users the ability to stream multimedia content, sync files and backup data easier than before.

The hardware encryption has also been improved giving a 42% increase in read speed while an increase of 64% can be seen in write speeds. That’s pretty good if you encrypt the information on your drive(s). As with all Synology NAS products, the DS216j also utilizes Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM), which is the most advanced and intuitive operating system for NAS devices. DSM allows you to install applications that make your life easier and gives your NAS more functionality.

The MRSP at the time of this posting is $169.99 USD. Check out the gallery and press release for more information.
