What do you value most on your smartphone? Nokia has been hard at work for years to continually innovate its smartphone camera technology and this is clearly demonstrated in the Lumia 1020. Where else are you going to find a great phone that also has a 41-megapixel camera?
What this means is that even if you can’t get physically closer to the action, you’re capturing so much more detail and so much more information, that you can crop out the portion of the image that you want and you could still just as easily end up with a 4MP, 8MP or 20MP image. They call this Nokia Pro Cam, because you can zoom in close after you’ve already taken the shot, rotating, reframing, cropping and sharing to your heart’s content.

If you’re into PC DIY, then it likely means that you like to tinker with your settings and options. The Nokia Pro Cam software gives you that sense of control too, because you can go ahead and adjust the focus, shutter speed, white balance and other settings through the easy and intuitive controls. The auto mode is great, but sometimes you want to tinker.
And with the corresponding smartphone apps, it’s easy enough to stash those high resolution images on a cloud storage solution. In fact, the Lumia 1020 comes with 7GB of free SkyDrive space to get you started and it has internal memory of up to 64GB too.
Paul “Salience” Trillo’s Innovative Photo Project
Perhaps one of the coolest demonstrations of what is possible with the Nokia Lumia 1020 is what New York City-based director and filmmaker “Salience” Paul Trillo was able to achieve. Using only the Nokia Lumia 1020, he shot 41 still images at 41 megapixels down 41 blocks of 5th Avenue in Manhattan. He then stitched together these images to create a virtual “walk” down the street, moving from 3am to 7am in an endless zoom sequence.
Many people may be surprised when they see that such an amazing project could be completed with “just” a smartphone, but that really shows just how powerful and robust the Nokia Lumia 1020 can be.
