It used to be the case that if you wanted desktop level performance out of a computer, well, you had to get a desktop PC. That’s really no longer the case with the tremendous advances in laptops and notebook technology, perhaps best epitomized by the newest additions to the lineup of MSI workstations featuring Intel Skylake processors and NVIDIA Quadro graphics.

The company is saying that these MSI workstations are the world’s first laptops to be equipped with 6th-generation Intel Core i7 and Xeon processors, which make them the ideal candidate for people who need to do the CAD or 3D modeling thing while on the road. The more powerful of the two is the performance-oriented WT72 series, featuring Quadro M5000M graphics, which is based on the Maxwell architecture for up to a 50% performance bump over its predecessors.

People wanting high performance in a slimmer package may be more interested in the WS60. Featuring a slim form factor, it still gets the Skylake treatment, plus mobile Quadro GPU. You also get SuperPort or Type-C connectors, error-correcting DDR4 RAM, Super RAID4 storage, Dynaudio speakers, and a new SteelSeries backlit keyboard.

Pricing and availability on the new MSI workstations are yet to be determined. Have a look through the press release and image gallery below for more details.
