The new trend for laptops seem to be a blurring of the edges from various market segments. The ultra portables, desktop replacements, and gaming laptop categories are borrowing attributes from one another to create more versatile laptops for everyone. MSI is on board with this trend as their new GE40 laptops look to bring gaming performance in a more portable form factor.
The upcoming GE40 will come in two models that both have a Core i7 4702MQ (4-core/8 threads), Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M (2G GDDR5), 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM, and a 14″ HD screen (1600 x 900). This should provide anyone with plenty of power for their gaming needs with a decent sized screen. This will all be packaged into a laptop that is only 1 inch thick closed and weights only 4.4 lbs. While not the most portable laptop at this size, it is lighter than most gaming laptops. With the exception of the GIGABYTE Ultrablade and RAZER Blades of course.
The two models, GE40 2OC-009US and GE40 2OC-008US, will be priced at $1399.99 and $1299.99 respectively. And to celebrate the release of these ultra mobile gaming system, MSI is also giving away $4000 in prizes with their “Just Game” giveaway on Facebook.
