Getac_X500_Server

GETAC is well known for their product line consisting of ruggedized notebooks, tablets and PDAs built for the toughest of conditions. Futurelooks has had quite a bit of experience in the past torturing their products including dancing on them, tossing them, and dunking them in water (roll video). We’ve even had the pleasure of reviewing their products a little more formally and came away quite impressed with the durability of the products. Just recently, the company has released a new mobile server product called the X500, which takes all their ruggedized device building knowledge, and puts it into a one bad ass mobile command station.

The X500 Mobile Server is equipped with an Intel Core i7-820QM 1.73 GHz quad core processor, 16GB of RAM and a NVIDIA® GeForce® GT330M discrete VGA graphic controller with 1GB of memory. It also comes with a 15.6 inch 800NITs QuadraClear sunlight-readable display which has to be seen to be believed. Since the company has a history of supplying the military (as well as police and fire departments), this machine would definitely be right at home in any war zone or disaster where you don’t want to worry about the status of your equipment. It would also make one helluva gaming server on the go too.

A good CPU, lots of RAM and/or even a discrete graphics card are all nice and all, but it doesn’t make this thing a server. That’s where the integrated RAID controller comes in offering support for RAID 0, 1, and 5 with the capacity to support up to five 2.5 inch drives, housed in their own ruggedized hot swap casings. This is all housed in a briefcase sized package measuring 16.2 x 12.5 x 4.6 inches.

The X500 should be shipping by the end of May 2013. But don’t count on this being cheap. Full press release at the link below.
