DDR3 RAM is going to be replaced by DDR4 RAM in the very near future as you can tell from the Kingston’s IDF 2013 announcement. On the other hand, DDR3 just refuses to go quietly into the night. In fact, it seems to be getting a second wind as G.Skill announced that they would be releasing 15 new DDR3 RAM kits optimized for the new Intel Core i7 LGA-2011 socket up to 2933 MHz, and with a lower average operating voltage.
The new Ripjaws Z family of Quad-channeled memory will cover a wide range of users thanks to the wide range of options. The new family will start at 1866 MHz and ramp up to 2933 MHz starting at 1.5V. Capacities will range from 16 GB to 64 GB. There are a few surprises with several of the kits at 1.6 V falling between the two most common voltages for Intel XMP certified memory kits.
Currently G.Skill has not provided pricing or availability at this time, but I expect release to be very soon as Ivy Bridge-E is already on the market (see our review). If you need high performance RAM, the competition is starting to get dangerously awesome. Full press release is posted below.

G.SKILL Expands RipjawsZ Family with 15 DDR3 Quad Channel Kits
– Upgrade to Ultra Speed and Capacity with 2933 MHz 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) or 2666 MHz 64 GB (8 x 8 GB) –
10th September 2013 – G.SKILL International Co. Ltd., the world’s leading manufacturer of extreme performance memory and superior solid-state storage, has added 15 DDR3 quad channel memory kits to its award-winning RipjawsZ family optimized for new Intel® Core™ i7 processor family for socket LGA-2011 and X79 motherboards.
Raising the Speed and Capacity of Quad Channel Memory Up To DDR3 2933 MHz 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) & 2666 MHz 64 GB (8 x 8 GB)
Boldly go where no memory has gone before! Optimized for the new Intel Ivy Bridge-E Core i7 processors, RipjawsZ series pushes quad channel DDR3 memory to the bleeding edge with rated speed of up to 2933 MHz 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) and 2666 MHz 64 GB (8 x 8 GB).
Below is 2666 MHz 64 GB validated with the Intel i7-4960X CPU and ASUS X79-Deluxe motherboard.
Stable Extreme Speeds of 3000 MHz 16 GB (4 x 4 GB)
New processors mean new limits. G.SKILL testing lab raised DDR3 memory speed up to 3000 MHz with stability – on air cooling! Below is 3000 MHz 16 GB proof of concept, on the Intel i7-4960X CPU and ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard.
