DIY PC Building for Noobs Made Easy with Newegg and iBUYPOWER

If you are new to the DIY (Do It Yourself) PC world, then there are plenty of sites to help you get started. The issue is being new means you most likely don’t know what those sites are yet. We could easily write an article about who to trust and what sites to get started with, but let’s just cut to the chase. If you are not sure what you need to buy, then iBUYPOWER and Newegg.com (two sites you can trust) just made it super easy.

The iBUYPOWER/Newegg Live Configuration Tool lets you put together a PC quickly and easily. No multiple pages, no constant bombardment about buying accessories or t-shirts, no hassle. Not sure what parts to buy? All the items are selected and tested by iBUYPOWER and are the same parts they use for their own products. Now you only need to know two things to get started.

  1. Your budget: It will be hard to stick to and you will likely fudge a few dollars, but try to stick with it. Adjust the parts on the Live Config tool to fit into that budget.
  2. Why you are building the PC: Are you going to be using it as a gaming system or a family PC? If it is the latter, then stick with the default configuration and beef up the graphics for light gaming or beef up the CPU for lots of multitasking. If you are building a gaming PC, then pick an Intel i5 CPU or better, get at least 8 GB of RAM and spend a minimum of an extra $140 in the graphics card area.

All the complicated parts of a PC build–such as pairing your motherboard with the right processor, picking a PSU with enough power/plugs, choosing a chassis that is large enough, ensuring you have proper cooling, etc.–are already done for you. If this is not the route for you, you can find plenty of information right here on Futurelooks.com and just use the tool as a reference.
