As the price of flash continues to drop, and the popularity of SSDs increases, it was only a mater of time till consumers would be looking for larger capacities. After all, it is inevitable that if some of our stuff is speedy on an SSD, we’d want to put more stuff on said SSD. That’s one of the reasons why Corsair has decided to add a 480GB and 960GB capacity to their Force Series LS SSD line up.
The Corsair Force Series LS SSDs already come in smaller 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB capacities. But unless you’re building a RAID array, the smaller capacities really aren’t so practical for use in small form factor PCs and notebooks. With a single larger 480GB and 960GB drive, you can throw everything you need onto one, without worry. Then all your apps and files can enjoy the speedy 560MB/s read and 540MB/s write speeds, boasted by these latest capacity bumps. Of course, the drives will also support TRIM and garbage collection, along with S.M.A.R.T. commands, giving you peace of mind and long life.
The drives will be 100% backwards compatible with SATA I and II, and will come with Corsair’s SSD Toolbox software to help keep the performance high. The drives will be sold in a 7mm height in a 2.5 inch width. An adapter will be needed if you want to mount it in a 3.5 inch bay, if your mounting area does not already support that. While PC support is assumed, there is no mention of the level of Mac support. Though one can likely assume it will work, but may have issues with garbage collection performance.
In terms of pricing, your’e looking at $189.99 US for the 480GB version, and $389.99 US for the 960GB version. They also come with a 3 year warranty, and should be hitting the shelves shortly.
