Pi-Top_2

As DIY enthusiasts, we have been building, customizing, and upgrading our desktop PCs for years. The one thing we have always wanted to do with this is take those skills and build our own laptop, which has been nearly impossible due to lack of standardization of components and preformed cases. This my be a thing of the past with the IndieGoGo crowd funding project Pi-Top.

For the price of $285, Pi-Top will send you everything you need to build a 13.3 inch laptop with Raspberry Pi DIY module B+ at the core. Is it a super power house that will let you play Battlefield 4 at 60 FPS? No, but it is a DIY board with an application processor, 4 USB 2.0 ports, SD card slot, Ethernet connection, 512 MB RAM, and support for Linux distros for everyday use. Pi-Top even has the option for “Hats” you can install to add functionality, such as home automation and environmental sensors.

If you want something more, Pi-Top will also provide you with the tools you need to expand your laptop to do more. Build your own hardware, circuits, LED panels, robots, and so on. This is DIY at its best where anything beyond the core needed pieces is up to you to build from scratch. I would partake, but I failed circuits II in college twice before changing majors. You can get started with the link below or you can just donate to the cause.
