For a while now, we’ve known that German power and cooling company, be quiet!, has been wanting to introduce products into the market for small form factor PCs. We first saw a glimpse of this vision at CES 2014, where we saw the company release a set of TFX and SFX form factor power supplies.  Then at this past CES 2015, the company made some moves into the space again, by introducing two low profile coolers. The most interesting one however, was the Shadow Rock LP, which services a need for builders looking for something that will fit within the confines of a “height challenged” small form factor build.

The new be quiet! Shadow Rock LP cooler is beginning it’s release into the market this week, and is everything we thought it would be. It’s a small form factor CPU cooler with a stack height of 75.4mm, using a full sized Pure Wings 2 120mm PWM fan. That potentially means that for even lower stack height systems, a thinner fan could be mounted for additional clearance, but it will affect the 130W TDP of dissipation with the full sized fan. But given the fact that it still uses four 6mm heatpipes, the drop in performance might be worth it to get this to squeeze into a tighter spot.

Noise levels are rated at around 25.5dBA, which will not make it the source of noise in your system. In some lower power configurations, you could even pull the 120mm fan off for successful silent running. The mounting system included, is designed for quick and easy setup for even the tightest of spaces.

The be quiet! Shadow Rock LP will work on all current Intel and AMD sockets. This includes the LGA2011-V3, making it a great high performance option for pairing with ASRock’s new Mini-ITX X99 board. That’s a combination that I would definitely love to see!

The be quiet! Shadow Rock LP will retail for €48,00, which translates to about $49.99 US, making it one of the more affordable coolers from the premium German manufacturer. It will also come with a 3 year warranty. Full press release is below.

be quiet! extends its cooler range with a low-profile model
Shadow Rock LP combines compact size with strong performance and whisper-silent operation

Glinde, April 14th 2015 – be quiet!, the market leader in PC power supplies in Germany for nine consecutive years*, extends its cooler range with a new model in a smaller size: the Shadow Rock LP is characterised by its compact low-profile design and high cooling capacity, making it ideal for use in space-saving but powerful desktop systems and home theatre PCs (HTPCs).

Impressively quiet, compact and powerful
The Shadow Rock LP has been developed with a focus on a perfect ratio of power to noise level. It can cope with a TDP of up to 130 watts despite its compact dimensions of 134 x 122 x 75.4 millimetre (L x W x H). Even then, it produces a maximum noise level of no more than 25.5 decibels. be quiet! achieves this through an optimal interaction between the numerous aluminium fins, four powerful 6 millimetre heat pipes and the Pure Wings 2 fan. The latter comes in a 120-millimetre PWM-version and has nine airflow-optimised fan blades and a durable rifle bearing. As a result, the manufacturer guarantees an optimal operating noise and long-term reliability.

Top-design and broad compatibility
be quiet! has equipped the Shadow Rock LP with a brushed aluminum top cover to bring the elegant design of its cooler range to this model. The ends of the heat pipes have been equipped with fitting aluminum caps as well. In addition to this special design, the high performance and the low operating noise, the Shadow Rock LP offers broad compatibility and supports all popular Intel® and AMD™ sockets.

Wide application range and favourable price
Due to its compact design and excellent performance, the Shadow Rock LP is a real space saver and stands out as the best cooling solution for many applications; whether it be in low-profile HTPCs, small multimedia configurations or entry-level gaming systems — the Shadow Rock LP is a good match for all these systems. The installation could hardly be easier, since assembly is done from the front side of the motherboard.

The be quiet! Shadow Rock LP is available now at a suggested retail price of €48,00.
