The first day of CES 2010 literally flew by. When you’re meeting up with old friends and making new ones with some of the best people in the tech industry, it’s really easy to lose track of time. We talked tech about some really cool things coming to the PC which turn it something more than just a box full of technical junk. Let’s get to it.
CoolIT Systems
These guys are the masters of Thermal Electric Cooling. They’ve come a long way since they launched the Freezone and Eliminator TEC cooling systems. It’s a new year and they’ve been very busy. Have a look at their latest Eco ALC, Vantage ALC, Omni ALC, and Maestro ESP management software system.
Expect to see some of these new solutions on the test bench here. Many integrators and inquiring minds want to know how they stand up against quad core, Hyper Threaded heat and we’ll provide those numbers in short order. For more information, check out CoolIT Systems.
SuperTalent
SuperTalent was all over the new USB 3.0 standard and how they were the first to start shipping these extremely fast USB flash drives. Just check out the video below to see just how fast these drives are on a USB 3.0 equipped board:
The new drives sport a fast looking black and silver finish and come in capacities of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB and is fully backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 (though you won’t get those crazy USB 3.0 speeds of course).
Intel
Rubbing the sleep from our eyes, we made it down to a very, very early Intel conference where several speakers covered things like putting that take that box of technical junk (called a PC) to better use by making it smarter and quicker while lowering its “carbon foot print”.
One example was a small form factor PC designed to interactively challenge one’s core exercise by dynamically changing the intensity level based on factors like heart rate and effort given against resistance. As the young lady worked out, the system was constantly adjusting to her adding and removing resistance. I can just see it now – a PC virus that turns it into an evil workout machine.
The recently launched Core i5 600, Core i3 300, and 500 Series Westmere series processors (article and review coming soon) made an appearance. What’s so special you ask? How does a 32nm processor with 45nm integrated graphics chip requiring less than 100 Watts sound? Add a couple extra Hyper-Threads and it’s a dual core that acts like a quad core.
And, the new H55, H57, and Q57 Chipsets are sure to help motherboard manufacturers offer some fully capable platforms. The H55 easily proved itself to be the best current Home Theater, or Media PC chipset offering true HD video requiring very low processor resources. All you need, is an HDMI cable.
