The majority of improvements and innovations for PC components center around performance and durability. ASRock has taken a different approach with their latest innovation, addressing a need for accident prevention when overclocking or using your motherboard outside of its enclosure. A pretty normal thing if you’re an enthusiast these days, but it can also leave your motherboard exposed to your favourite beverage. They are attempting to make motherboard liquid damage a thing of the past.
ASRock will be coating their Intel 8 Series motherboards in a non-conductive surface treatment. This will protect it from dust, corrosion, conductive liquids, and extreme temperatures. This is one of those ideas you have to pause and ask, “What took so long to come up with this idea?” You have to see this to believe it. Check out the video below…

For the wise guys out there who want to pour water, beer, Coke, Mountain Dew, Red Bull, orange juice, or anything else on their board just because they can, just don’t get it into the PCIe slots. Those are still exposed to the elements and can still cause a short.
Although this may reduce the number of liquid related incidents, you have to wonder if this will have a negative effect on the ability for the boards to be repaired in case of warranty. I guess that’s ASRock’s problem to deal with.

The Ultimate Armor for Protecting Your 8 Series Motherboards
A-Style: Conformal Coating
May 22, 2013 – You have butterfingers, unfortunately we’re not talking about those delicious sweets, but the kind that makes you practice Newton’s law of universal gravitation every once in a while. And according to Murphy’s law, things tend to get even worse when your slippery hands get involved with electronics. What usually happens when you spill beverages or other conductive liquids onto your motherboard is that it turns into a not-so-fun sizzling barbecue fest, and then your motherboard dies of short-circuit fatefully. That’s where A-Style, Conformal Coating comes in.
The special layer of Conformal Coating makes ASRock’s motherboards invulnerable to conductive liquids, so overclockers won’t have to worry about accidentally spilling liquid nitrogen, liquid helium or even clam chowder over their motherboards while they are overclocking. Along with conductive liquids, Conformal Coating also protects the motherboard against dust, corrosion and extreme temperatures. It is the ultimate armor for the upcoming 8 Series motherboards.
